Protecting Green Space

greenThe 40th Ward is home to some of the best parks in the city. Pat has made parks and preserving green space for our families as a priority. Parks serve as community meeting places, safe places to take our children, and hubs of our neighborhoods.

Pat helped secure funding to transform Winnemac Park from an empty field to one of the best parks in the city. Most recently, Pat spearheaded the 20-acre West Ridge Nature Center project in Rosehill Cemetery, saving the area from development that would wipe out the natural habitats. The nature preserve will feature pathways, an educational center, scenic views and boating and fishing.

Pat has supported the building and renovation of every park in the 40th Ward, including the dog park and boathouse at River Park. In 2015, projects at Emerson Playground (Granville and Wolcott) and Korczak Playlot (Granville and Claremont) will be completed.

Pat was instrumental in starting the first community garden of the Peterson Garden Project, which now includes 8 community gardens in our area.
