On Tuesday, July 31, two kids and their adult leader from the Pedersen-McCormick Boys and Girls Club shadowed Ald. Pat O’Connor at his City Hall Office as part of the Pedesen-McCormick Career Week event set up by Commander Sean Loughran of the 20th Police District. The Pedersen-McCormick Boys and Girls Club has been serving youth from a variety of communities since 1958, including Uptown, Lincoln Square and the Ravenswood neighborhood, and Edgewater.
Their day began when they met privately with Ald. O’Connor to discuss neighborhood issues and their school desires and goals.
The kids sat in on several meetings and had a particular interest in a meeting that centered around plastic bags and plastic straws and their impact on the environment. They expressed insightful concerns at this meeting.
They also sat in on a meeting in the City Council Chambers involving a group of 50 high school students who Ald. O’Connor addressed from various schools throughout Chicago.
Ald. O’Connor enjoyed spending time with the kids from the Pedersen-McCormick Boys and Girls Club and thanked Commander Loughran for the opportunity of participating in Career Week.
