Cook County States Attorney Kimberly M. Foxx and I enjoyed visiting with the Chappell Elementary students who tend the Winnemac Youth Garden. The youth garden project began as a result of the State’s Attorney’s Community Justice Center North’s office looking for creative ways to help the community.
Working with the 40th Ward, Chicago Park District, and others, the Winnemac Youth Garden became a project of many partners. Uniquely situated within a city park, local businesses donated supplies, volunteers built beds and planters, kids created colorful art projects and everyone planted vegetables, herbs and flowers.
The Community Justice Center will continue to work with the kids to help tend the garden. Produce will then be harvested and cooked with our local 20th Police District.
