“Parting is such sweet sorrow.”
Shakespeare had it right when he penned the words above. In this case, the emphasis should be on the sweet as after decades of providing delicacies to the residents of the north side of Chicago, the Swedish Bakery will close its doors for a final time at the end of February.
The Stantons, who have run the bakery on Clark Street, have been major contributors to the wonderful business resurgence that the street saw in the 80s and stood as a beacon for what community involved shop-owners could do for a commercial strip.
Alderman Osterman and I are sponsoring a resolution congratulating the Stantons on their years in business, wishing them well in the next chapter of their lives. Until the end of February, I encourage anyone with a desire for something sweet and delicious to make their way into the Swedish Bakery.
They will be missed.
Ald. Pat O’Connor
