Historic Rosehill Cemetery

One of the many treasures within the 40th Ward is the historic Rosehill Cemetery, located at 5800 Ravenswood Avenue. Chartered in 1859, the 350 acre cemetery is the oldest and largest non-sectarian cemetery in Chicago. Rosehill contains the graves of many notables and veterans of all our wars including the American Revolution and is the largest burial ground of Union Civil War soldiers in the Midwest. Many house-hold name Chicagoans such as Oscar Mayer, Montgomery Ward, and Richard Sears are interred here as well. For those who believe in the supernatural, Rosehill is a paranormal playground boasting many documented stories of ghostly encounters.

Rosehill Cemetery offers tours to groups of 10 people or more on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month and are scheduled by appointment only.
