<p>The Lincoln Foundation, located at 6525 N. Clark Street, celebrated the opening of its food pantry on May 1st.  Alderman O&#8217;Connor was on hand to tour the facility and also had the honor of being apart of the ribbon cutting ceremony.</p>

<p>For many years, the Avenue of Flags has been a tradition at Rosehill Cemetery during Memorial Day Weekend.</p>
<p>The flags have been donated by famiily and friends of departed veterans. These flags lined the path of the parade route which proceeded to the Veterans&#8217; Memorial Rose Garden.  The somber event included a number of military rituals such as roll call of the honored dead who lost their lives this year; the folding and presentation of the flag; and a 21 gun salute followed by taps.</p>

		<description><![CDATA[The Chicago Mayor's Office of Special Events has released the schedule of special events for 2010. ]]></description>
			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a class="highslide" onclick="return vz.expand(this)" href="http://www.aldermanoconnor.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/fireworks.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-1475" title="fireworks" src="http://www.aldermanoconnor.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/fireworks-150x150.jpg" alt="" width="150" height="150" /></a>We are rapidly approaching one of the most dangerous times of the year for our children.   The 4th of July is coming and with it all the dangers of illegal fireworks.</p>
<p>The best way to protect your  children is to be with them. Start planning now to make the 4th a family day. Picnics, games, movies &#8212; you decide.  Top them off with a magnificent fireworks display put on by a professional pyrotechnic company.</p>
<p>Our community is fortunate that we will have two free shows at our lakefront.  I recommend that you pack up refreshments and a blanket and take the Foster or Lawrence or Peterson bus to the lake.</p>
<p><strong>On Saturday, July 3rd</strong> the outstanding Saddle and Cycle Display can be seen. The show takes place at Foster Beach.</p>
<p><strong>On Sunday, July 4th</strong> the City is starting a new tradition.  Instead of a gigantic show in the loop, there will be 3 barges in the lake putting on a synchronized show at 9:00 p.m.  The nearest show is 2,000 feet off the lake between Foster and Lawrence.</p>
<p>The City has been preparing for this for months.  Margate Park will be the police/fire staging area and many Uptown side streets will be closed East of Broadway.</p>
<p>We are expecting between 350,000 and 400,000 people.  There will be all sorts of additional public transportation and city services.  So join us. Relax.  Have some safe fun.<br />
<strong>The CTA has made special arrangements for the 4th of July include:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>147 bus will run but may be diverted to Broadway north of Hollwood</li>
<li>Time between redline trains will be reduced by 5 minutes</li>
<li>Trains will be lengthened from 4 to 6 cars</li>
<li>staging area on Marine Drive for buses</li>
<li>No parking on Marine Drive because of staging buses.  Margate Park Field House will be the command center for police, fire and emergency services</li>
</ul>
<p>East &#8211; West Streets south of Foster will be closed that evening at a time to be determined.  Tow trucks will be available to tow illegally parked cars. Port-a-potties will be numerous and scattered throughout the area. There is a great scarcity of parking in the area so we recommend; Take Public Transportation</p>

<p>Alderman Patrick J. O&#8217;Connor is proud to have helped the <a href="http://www.edgewaterhistory.org" target="_blank">Edgewater Historical Society</a> find a home in the 40th Ward.</p>
<p>A former fire station was being used for environmental purposes and was no longer needed. We helped facilitate the transfer of the building to the Edgewater Historical Society.</p>
<p>For the time period of June through September, 2010 admission will be free.  In addition to being open on Saturdays from noon until 4:00 p.m. the museum will be open on Sundays for the next 4 months.</p>
<p>There will be contests and special activities on Sundays.  The museum is located at 5358 N. Ashland.  The museum is available by special appointment to school classes and groups.</p>

<p>Day One will consist of five different workshops conducted by job placement professionals. There will be 25 employability specialists on hand to counsel attendees on resume writing, the interview process, efficient networking information, personal presentation techniques and personal attitudes required for successful job search activity.  On Day Two, participants will meet with employers seeking to hire.</p>
<p>We have implemented the two-day resource and employment model to assist employers by pre-screening job seekers for soft and hard skills and providing education and support services to job seekers who need a little help in becoming job ready.</p>
