Bowmanville Community Garden Expansion

On Wednesday, July 28th the Chicago City Council passed an ordinance allowing provisions to be made for the Bowmanville Community Garden expansion. The garden, located at 5384 N. Bowmanville is part of the Devon/Western redevelopment project area within the 40th Ward. This will be a green space beautification project for all to enjoy.

Alderman O’Connor would like to express his thanks to Alderman Stone of the 50th Ward for his consent to provide some of the funds from the Devon/Western Avenue TIF which is paying for the property, its demolition and restoration to green space. After that, the Community’s imagination and hard work will turn the space into something wonderful for the whole neighborhood to enjoy.

About Bowmanville

Bowmanville is a residential neighborhood located in the northern section of Chicago’s Lincoln Square community area. The community is home to over 1500 residential households, and a small but thriving industrial corridor. The neighborhood boundaries are Ravenswood Avenue, Foster Avenue, Western Avenue and Rosehill Cemetery.

The Bowmanville Community Organization (BCO) is the community’s officially recognized Chicago Neighborhood Organization. It is run by a volunteer group committed to maintaining and improving the quality of life for Bowmanville residents. Since its inception in 1987 the BCO has contributed to a solid foundation of community service and neighborliness. The BCO’s purpose is to facilitate communication within the community and with local officials and other organizations to ensure that the interests of the members of the community are being addressed.

Bowmanville is also home to a variety of quality restaurants, taverns, retail shops, small businesses and industry. Our local schools are Chappell Elementary, Amundsen High School and Rogers Park Montessori School (RPMS).
